FREEDOM OF THE BOROUGH

BUSINESS

 

By direction of the Mayor (Councillor Gill Heesom) you are summoned to attend a Special meeting of the Borough Council of Newcastle-under-Lyme to be held in at Castle House, Barracks Road, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. ST5 1BL on Wednesday 3 April, 2019 at 7pm (being a Special meeting of the Council convened in pursuance of Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972) for the purpose of passing the following resolution:-

 

Proposed by Councillor Simon Tagg

Seconded by Councillor Simon White

 

 

“That the Council in exercise of their powers under Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972 and being desirous of expressing its admiration and appreciation of the long and eminent service given by Fred and Connie Van Buren to magic and illusion performances and raising the profile of Philip Astley and his historic links to the Borough, and as a mark of esteem does confer upon them the honorary FREEDOM OF THE BOROUGH”.

 

Minutes:

The Special Meeting had been called in respect of conferring honorary Freedom of the Borough upon Fred and Connie Van Buren.

 

Councillor Simon Tagg stated that Fred and Connie’s achievements both in their performing and their promotion of Philip Astley should be recognised.

 

Councillor Gary White echoed Councillor Tagg’s Comments, adding that this was important both for the Borough and the Circus.

 

Members agreed with the comments, Councillor Kearon stating that the Van Buren’s played a big part in raising the profile of Newcastle.

 

 

Resolved:     That the Council in exercise of their powers under Section

249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972 and being desirous of
