Resolved:  That the following observations be made on the applications listed below:

Former library, Ironmarket, Newcastle 21/00903/FUL – Amended design

The working party still objects to the height of the proposal by at least one storey and some (but not all members) would prefer the mansard roof to be removed from the scheme as it has an overbearing scale and therefore has a harmful effect on the streetscene and the character of the conservation area.

Members generally preferred the design and colour of the scheme and were happy with brickwork and thought it had better symmetry and interest.  There was some concern over the proposal to use textured brick which may not be the right approach for Ironmarket given the context of the existing vernacular and the group wanted to have the exact details of the projecting brick patterned panels as this was not clear in the visuals.  With regard to the awnings they felt that the configuration of different sizes was a fussy and unnecessary impractical detail and needed some alteration.
