Mr Wilson.

Replacement windows, replacement conservatory roof and new bi-fold doors.  new conservation roof lights.  Alterations to pipework and drainage and new bi-fold doors to studio.

No objections to the proposals, however, the following improvements should be considered:-

(i)     Segmental windows should be utilised ideally as infill panels would not have been original.

(ii)    As windows are replaced, they should be set back to create a recess as would have been seen originally.

12/00462/ADV

Students Union and Shops.

Keele University.

Advertisement signs and banners.

No objection to the banners and shop front signs.

No objections to the student logo, however, the level of illumination should be controlled

The Working Party objected to the Student Union green cladding and suggested that the render could be cleaned or re-painted with cream/white using colourful lettering to provide the stand-out feature..

12/00446/FUL

The Old School, Church Bank, Keele.

Ms V Newman.

Proposed new bay window extension and reinstatement of former bell tower.

The Working Party had no objections to the bell tower, but had mixed views with no definitive response to the bay window.  Both the Planning and Conservation Officers should consider the following question:-

“Is it right to replicate detail from 150 years ago, or adopt a more contemporary approach?”

The contemporary approach could utilise a timber framed glazed proposal with a pitched roof whilst respecting the first floor above.
